This essay is the first in a series about the pioneering Brain family who migrated to South Australia from Somerton in Somerset, England in 1840. Malachi Brain was the Australian progenitor of this family. The focus of the essay is to share with you my research into Malachi’s family history and to discuss some possible reasons why he decided to migrate.
